Our GoalOver the next year, we hope to release over 500 plan sets to the affected areas. Honestly, we are not sure how our efforts will be received, but this seems to be a reasonable aspiration. That is over $375,000 worth of retail home plans. Hopefully, we can do even more. If we can market the same number of plans to others around the country, we will have raised over $125,000 for direct aid to people in need of housing. Help us reach this goal.
How You Can HelpHome Patterns will offer these same home plans to the rest of the country as well. To encourage your participation, we have discounted the normal price of our home plans (around $750 - $950) to $495. Half of this money will be given directly to non-profit groups that support housing efforts in the affected regions such as Habitat for Humanity or The American Red Cross. It is our intention to put this money directly into the hands of affected citizens through recognized non-profit channels. The other half of the price will fund our own non-profit work to provide free home plans and other design services to affected communities. Of course, we will accept full price for the plans if you would like to make a further contribution to non-profit housing efforts.
Local Louisiana and Mississippi planners, if we can be of help to you, please let us know. Planners elsewhere please make our efforts known to your local builders who might need a bungalow plan that would support relief efforts. Printers, it is obvious that we could use some help. Everyone else, please contact us if you can support our efforts.
The Home PlansWe have pored over our home plans and narrowed the field down to
five of our best plans. We have limited the number due to the foreseen demand and we wish to streamline our efforts so that we may reach as many folks as possible. We have included plans to reach many different needs and tastes, from 1300 SF to 1900 SF. In character, these plans reflect the Bungalow and Arts and Crafts tradition of our countries best pre-war neighborhoods. Inside, the plans have been updated for today’s slightly more informal lifestyles. Most of these plans were developed to fit into older neighborhoods, therefore they fit on narrow lots and work well with alleys and detached side garages. The plans can be viewed under the "Katrina Plans" link on panel to the left.

For those in the affected areas of the hurricanes, the cost to the plan buyer is $75. However, if the user has insurance and the cost of the home plan could be covered, we anticipate that the homeowner can pay a reduced price of $300 for the use of the plan – this money will then be used to help defer the costs of plans and services to the folks who are without insurance or have other financial problems. This is a voluntary effort by those folks with insurance, but not required. To all other folks, the costs of the plans are $495, of which $250 will go toward efforts of rebuilding in the affected areas – either through direct contributions to homeowners, non-profits, or to aid in continued design work for the areas.
Legalese and Qualifying Conditions:Of course, there are conditions that will need to be met. We hope to simplify this problem with a simple signed waiver from the end user. More information will be posted shortly.
- End-user must have lived in affected areas. This does not preclude the building of a home outside of affected areas.
- A builder may not charge for the use of the plan – essentially we want these plans to be used in a situation that the end user does not pay for the use of the plan.
- Users are responsible for any and all printing, delivery, or other charges.
- Designer is not responsible for meeting local codes– these plans were designed to meet general national codes and local codes will different requirements. The user/builder is responsible for meeting all local and national codes and employing local professionals to meet these codes.
